SIGNING ALERT | Surprise announcement: Alexis Lafreniere inked to a deal worth over four million
The Rangers have taken matters into their own hands and shut everything that suggested that the 2020 1st overall would either receive an offer sheet or be traded.
The announcement just came in: the Rangers' number 13 will be in New York for the next two years. Elliott Friedman first broke the news:
Nothing has gone according to plan so far for Alexis Lafreniere. He came out of the juniors as a highly dominant power forward, where he had collected an outstanding 112 points in 52 games. After three years in the NHL, the former first-overall has yet to reach the 20-goal mark.
While some have already given up on him, it appears the Rangers still believe that with a new coach in place, there is hope that he reaches the full extent of his potential. With their cap situation, the Rangers are going to need big seasons out of their young guns!
