As was expected from the get go in this series, it was going to be a physical one, with Matthew Tkachuk and Sam Bennett of Panthers vs Jacob Trouba and Matt Rempe of the Rangers. However, there was an incident in Game 3 on Sunday that caused plenty of discussion on whether or not Jacob Trouba should be suspended.
During the second period yesterday, Florida Panthers forward Evan Rodrigues was taking the puck to the net in New York's zone when Rangers defenceman Jacob Trouba steps up and leads with his elbow, which catches his opponent in the side of his head.
The officials on the play reviewed the incident and gave Trouba a two-minute minor for elbowing, as well as a two-minute minor for slashing Panthers forward Sam Bennett.
The call on the ice didn't sit well with the Florida Panthers and their fans, who thought that Trouba should've been given a five-minute major and a game misconduct. On Monday, the NHL's Department of Player Safety decided to review the play and instead of suspending Trouba, which many were hoping for, handed him a $5,000 fine.
Game 4 on Tuesday night should be interesting given the decision by the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety. With the Panthers down 2-1 in the series, they likely won't go out of their way to drop the mitts with Trouba, they'll take any chance they have to land a big hit on the Rangers captain.
