LATEST | John Tortorella's method once again questioned: Makes his captain a healthy scratch
Just one month after being named as the 19th captain in franchise history, Philadelphia Flyers head coach John Tortorella has decided to scratch Sean Couturier for tonight's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
"Sean Couturier appears to be a healthy scratch for the Flyers on Tuesday.
He was named captain 34 days ago."
Couturier met with reporters on Tuesday following the news that he's going to be scratched against the Maple Leafs and said that he is frustrated with how he's been treated in Philadelphia lately.
"I've been putting the work in for a while. I've been struggling, but I've been working on my game, and it's frustrating the way I've been treated around here lately. But it is what it is." Couturier said.
He went on to add, "I control what I can control. It is what it is, and I'm gonna move on.
"It doesn't matter what I think. I've got to leave my ego aside. Hopefully I can get back into [the lineup] soon."
The 31-year-old has appeared in 65 games this season for the Flyers where he's put up 36 points (11 goals, 25 assists), 27 penalty minutes and is a minus-six.
With the Flyers in the midst of a battle to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since 2020, they'll need their captain in the lineup and the next opportunity for that to happen will be Thursday night against the Carolina Hurricanes.
