Perhaps nothing in the game of hockey is more frustrating than receiving a blundered penalty call at the hands of officiating. Whether it be a botched puck-over-glass delay of game penalty, or a phantom high-sticking call, receiving an unwarranted penalty can sway the results of any given game.
TSN's Darren Dreger is reporting that the NHL is expecting to implement several rule changes to minimize these outcomes, such as a Coaches Challenge for a puck-over-glass call, as well as for a «Friendly Fire» high stick:
Rule tweaks in the NHL. Puck over glass will eventually be a Coaches Challenge to remove penalty as will «Friendly Fire» high stick penalties. Other small changes also expected. These are recommendations that go to the competition committee and then to board for final approval.— Darren Dreger (@DarrenDreger) March 19, 2024
These changes must be overseen and approved by committees of people before they can ultimately be approved and implemented.
