MAJOR | Canadian team signs forward to massive contract extension
The Toronto Maple Leafs are getting very close to locking up one of their top forwards for the long-term.
According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Maple Leafs are closing in on an eight-year contract extension worth $92 million ($11.5 million AAV) with Swedish forward William Nylander. Friedman added that the contract will come with a full no-movement clause.
"Hearing Toronto and William Nylander closing 8x$11.5M extension. Full NMC all the way through." Friedman said.
Nylander, 27, was set to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st and became eligible to sign an extension with the Maple Leafs back in the summer. After there was no contract signed during the summer, fans began to worry that Nylander could find his way out of Toronto following the 2023-24 season, but given his play so far, there was no way the Maple Leafs would have been able to let him walk.
In 37 games this season, Nylander has 54 points (21 goals, 33 assists), eight penalty minutes and is a minus-five. His 54 points are currently the most by any player on the Maple Leafs' roster this season.
Do you think William Nylander is worth $11.5 million per season? Let us know what you think in the poll below.
