40-Year-Old Former Canucks Forward Setting the League on Fire in Pro Hockey Comeback
A 40-year-old former Vancouver Canucks forward is impressing the hockey world in a big way this summer as he continues to light it up in a pro league Down Under.
As the offseason continues here in the Northern Hemisphere, with teams in Europe beginning their training camps in the weeks ahead, hockey has been going on all summer long down in Australia.
The Australian Ice Hockey League, which consists of ten franchises, has a very familiar face to fans in North America as former Vancouver Canucks forward David Booth
signed with the Melbourne Ice back in May for the remainder of the 2025 season.
"Massive signing alert! The Melbourne Ice are proud to announce the addition of former NHL 30-goal scorer David Booth to our 2025 AIHL roster!" the team said.
The AIHL's regular season will be winding down later this month, with Booth's club set to advance to the finals thanks to an 18-point lead over the second place team in the standings and the former Canuck has played a massive role in his short time with the club.

The Detroit, Michigan native has appeared in 11 games thus far with the Melbourne Ice and in that time has managed to record a whopping 50 points (25 goals, 25 assists), along with eight penalty minutes.
While the quality of hockey in the Australian Ice Hockey League isn't great, no offense to their fans or players, but Booth has shown that despite his age, he could return to Europe later this year to continue his career, if he wishes to.
The Melbourne Ice hosted the Brisbane Lightning back on Sunday and it turned out to be the greatest game of not only the season, but his career for David Booth as he put up five goals and three assist in a 10-6 win.
A little over half-way through the third period, David Booth scored what will undoubtedly go down as the best goal of the 2025 season in the Australian Ice Hockey League, perhaps the greatest they've ever seen in league history.
Booth received a drop pass from his teammate just inside the Lightning's zone, proceeds to do a spin-o-rama around a Brisbane player, faked out another and then roofed it short side, top corner to give Melbourne an 8-6 lead.
"If this isn't the AIHL goal of the season from the Melbourne Ice's David Booth, then we'd like to see what is!" the AIHL said in a post on X.
"40-year-old, David Booth has 25 goals and 50 points in 11 games for the Melbourne Ice of the AIHL
Seems pretty good." Cam Robinson of Elite Prospects said.
What David Booth has been able to do at his age is quite impressive and it's going to be very interesting to see what he decides to do once the Australian Ice Hockey League concludes on August 31st, as he still has the talent to play in one of Europe's top leagues.
