BREAKING | Sportsnet makes official announcement regarding John Garrett's replacement
After a lengthy career as a colour commentator, former Canucks goaltender John Garrett announced his retirement at the end of the 2022-23 season.
Garrett's retirement left a lot of speculation amongst the fan base as to who his replacement on Sportsnet broadcasts would be and on Tuesday, that news was revealed.
In a press release, Sportsnet announced that former NHL forward and North Vancouver native Dave Tomlinson will handle the majority of the colour commentary duties throughout the 2023-24 season, while Ray Ferraro will join the team for select games.
"The debut of Sportsnet's new regional broadcast team: Announcer John Shorthouse with the play-by-play call, alongside new game analyst Dave Tomlinson and host Dan Murphy. Former NHLer Ray Ferraro will also join the Sportsnet broadcast team as game analyst on select regional Canucks games throughout the season." Sportsnet said in their press release.
Sportsnet's Canucks coverage will feature all 82 regular season games, including 58 regional games on Sportsnet Pacific in the Vancouver viewing area.
Vancouver's first game on Sportsnet is a nationally televised game on opening night, October 11th, against the Edmonton Oilers.
