LATEST | Canucks make a release regarding top prospect Brzustewicz: The Canucks have made a robbery
The Canucks only spoke once in the first 64 picks at the 2023 NHL Amateur Draft after they traded the Islanders' 1st round pick (acquired in the Horvat trade) and their 2nd Rounder to acquire Filip Hronek. Everyone thought they'd be developing some lower-end talent from there, but one prospect rose through the ranks to prove otherwise.
DOMINATING EVERY ASPECT OF THE GAME
The Canucks were lucky enough to land the American, Hunter Brzustewicz after he had missed some time due to an injury; the young man fell a few rounds and fell onto the Canucks' lap. Even though he was considered as a first-round talent earlier in the season.
Since he returned to the OHL's Kitchener Rangers, the defenseman has dominated every aspect of the game. He's been so good the Canucks needed to issue an article on the young man:
''He leads all OHL defencemen in points and is tied second overall with his teammates Adrian Misaljevic and Carson Rehkopf.
The work he's put in throughout the summer on his own and at Canucks Development Camp and Training Camp has put his game right where he wants it to be.
«I feel good. I expected my game to be where it's at right now and I expect it to improve offensively and defensively as the season progresses. We've had such a great start and we're such a close group off the ice too. I think anything is possible with a close group even if we don't have as much star power as we did last year,» Brzustewicz said.'' The defenceman had a productive first OHL year when he collected 57 points (6 goals - 51 assists) through 68 games, but after 9 games this year, he's already up to 5 goals and 19 points. The young man just collected his fourth consecutive three-point game. Including this goal:
It may be a little early to draw comparisons, but the way Brzustewicz fell in the draft has been giving Adam Fox vibes, not comparisons, but rather similarities to how high-end talent fell in the draft. Over the past few years, the Canucks have had their fair share of misses with the draft. Everything points towards the tide finally turning.
The Canucks have already inked their other 3rd Round Selection, Sawyer Mynio. Is it time they inked Brzustewicz? After he clearly shows he's ready to take on the next step?
