LATEST | Canucks release video and insight into selecting Sawyer Mynio
The Vancouver Canucks used the 89th overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft to select left-shot defenceman Sawyer Mynio from the Western Hockey League's Seattle Thunderbirds.
On Friday afternoon, the Canucks released their latest edition of 'Building Blue', which featured Mynio and gave some insight into his selection back in June.
"I like everything about his game. He's very calm with the puck, moves pucks well, defends well, smart and he's got good feet." said Todd Harvey, Canucks Director of Amateur Scouting.
Harvey added, "He was kind of put down in the lineup this year with their team being so stacked, but he was first over the boards on the penalty kill unit. Last couple of minutes of play he was the guy and I actually think there's a lot more growth with his offense."
The Kamloops native finished the season with 31 points (five goals, 26 assists), 40 penalty minutes and was a plus-50. He added four points in 19 playoff games, helping Seattle win the WHL Championship.
Mynio is expected to go back to Seattle for his third season in the Western Hockey League and will play a much bigger role for the Thunderbirds.
