NHL veteran enforcer and Vancouver native Milan Lucic has not played hockey since the 2023-2024 season, and his wife Brittany Carnegie has offered up an emotional update after months of silence.
After 16 seasons in the NHL, 8 of which as a top power ford and Stanley Cup champion with the Boston Bruins, the Vancouver native found himself in hot legal water in his monumental return to the team in November of 2023.
After just 4 games with the B's, Lucic was arrested after an alleged incident of domestic violence against his wife, Brittany.
After a highly publicized trial, the domestic violence charges against the veteran were all dropped by wife after she decided to uphold "marital privilege", where prosecutors were unable to proceed with the case.
She essentially refused to testify against him and denied the use of evidence, which subsequently stopped the prosecution.
Regardless of the charges being dropped, Lucic was still unable to find a new contract in the NHL, and after months and months of silence from Lucic and his wife, she shared an emotional message on social media about the former enforcer.
Brittany Carnegie posted a heartfelt message on Father's day, reflecting and congratulating him on his journey to sobriety.
"The greatest gift you have given our children is the gift of your sobriety -the ability to experience life through a cleaner, more grounded perspective. You have always been present for them, and now, even more so," she wrote.
"They are truly fortunate to call you 'Dad' and to learn from the thoughtful tools and wisdom you've gained along your journey. I am deeply proud of the strength, dedication, and growth you've shown as you continue becoming the best version of yourself - for their sake, and for the family we've built together."
In attempts to rekindle his marriage and professional hockey career, he decided to enter the NHL / NHLPA Assistance Program, where he was treated for his substance abuse issues.
Lucic has not officially hung up his skates just yet, but at 27 years old and being removed since 2023, it appears that after 1,177 games with the Bruins, Los Angeles Kings, Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames, his carrer is all but done.
He scored 233 goals and added 353 assists while and racking up 1301 Pentalty minutes.
