LATEST | Podkolzin getting a true vote of confidence: Arshdeep Bains is the camp's real surprise
Hockey is finally back as the Canucks kick off their training camp in Victoria. We're getting an early look at the team's potential lines, which sets the pace for exciting hockey and tough decisions.
YOUNGSTERS GETTING A TRUE OPPORTUNITY
It was reported earlier during Group A's practice that Nils Hoglander was getting an essential promotion as he was skating on a line featuring Elias Pettersson and Andrei Kuzmenko. It appears, however, that Tocchet isn't done with his line-up since Group B also highlighted exciting decisions.
The Canucks 2019 first-round draft selection, Vasily Podkolzin, was allowed to skate with J.T. Miller and Brock Boeser on what we presume to be the team's second line.
What caused an even bigger surprise was that Arshdeep Bains was getting a look alongside Pius Suter and Conor Garland. While this spot will most likely end up being Mikheyev's when he's back, it's a notable vote of confidence to see him getting the bump over Aidan McDonough.
Bains joined the Canucks as an undrafted free agent after a stellar 20-year-old campaign in the WHL. His progression hasn't pedstopped since he was outstanding in his first pro season, and may be one of the early call-ups this season.
