The Canucks gave up a big package for a 29 year old, soon to be UFA centerman in Elias Lindholm.

But the trade gives the Canucks maybe the best centre depth they've ever had, and as Sportsnet's Ian MacIntyre writes, insurance behind Elias Pettersson.

Nothing happens in a vacuum and it would be naïve to think Canucks management hasn't considered the possibility of life without Pettersson and what that Vancouver team might need,
MacIntyre wrote.
At the very least, acquiring Lindholm now and having his rights until July 1 provides management partial insurance against Pettersson leaving.

MacIntyre writes with those two along with Miller, Blueger, and Suter, the Canucks are as deep as they've ever been.

MacIntyre took a deep dive into the trade that brings that center depth to Vancouver, highlighted by Rutherford and Allvin's desire to keep both Pettersson and Lindholm.
