The status of Filip Hronek and his contract has become the most significant conversation when it comes to the Canucks' offseason, as the 26-year-old is still without an extension as we draw nearer to the NHL Entry Draft and free agency.
Despite how well he fits with the Canucks, there's nothing pointing towards the team and player being close on a contract, and they may have to look to other available defensemen.
Notably, the Canucks could, of course, look to a reunion with Chris Tanev if he decides to walk from the Dallas Stars, or they could look to another divisional rival and try to bring in Matt Roy.
There will be plenty of competition for those players, as several teams seek a steady defensive presence on the right side, but they will almost certainly be targets for the Canucks.
There are several quality UFA defensemen available this summer, but a number of them don't look to be great fits for what the Canucks need. The decision to move on from Hronek will be difficult if it has to be made.
