When the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames faced off against one another on Wednesday, late in the 1st period, Connor Zary took exception to a monster, clean hit laid by rookie defenseman Elias Pettersson and decided to deliver some dirty retaliation.
The result was pretty scary as he laid an illegal elbow to the head of Pettersson, resulting in him having to leave the game.

Ultimately, what fans believed was suspension worthy was quickly reviewed by the the league in which they handed down a 2-game suspension for what was just a 2-minute minor on the ice.

Flames head coach Ryan Huska commented on the actions of his young forward, actually defending and agreeing with what he did, even though it was so blatently dirty.
«I love that Connor went in and stood up for a teammate,» Huska said. «Connor's not that type of player. I don't think he's ever going to put himself or be in a situation like that again. It's not him. I mean, he's had 14 hits this year - that's not Connor, so I don't worry about that at all. I just love the fact that he was there for a teammate.»

Obviously whenever a player gets rocked like that, someone from your team needs to step up and defend a team mate, but the manner in which he did it was wrong, which appears to fall on deaf ears for Ryan Huska.
Anyone who saw the play knew it was suspension worthy, even most thinking that 2-games was not enough.
Regardless, emotions were running hot as Vancouver and Calgary are currently tied with 71 points, where they both are in a deep battle for the last Wild Card spot in the west.
