In a post on social media, the Vancouver Canucks announced that they've agreed to terms on a two-year, two-way contract with unrestricted free agent goaltender Jiri Patera. Financial details of Patera's contract were not released.
Patera, 25, was drafted in the sixth round, 161st overall, by the Vegas Golden Knights in 2017 and went on to appear in eight games for them in the last two seasons, while spending most of his time in the organization in the AHL with the Henderson Silver Knights.
In six games for the Golden Knights last season, Patera had a record of 1-3-1 with a 3.98 goals against average and an .893 save percentage. He went on to also play in 25 AHL games for Henderson where he had a record of 11-10-4 with a 2.99 goals against average and a .903 save percentage.
The Prague, Czechia native will likely compete with Arturs Silovs for the backup role during training camp and pre-season games, but will more than likely start the season in the American Hockey League with the Abbotsford Canucks.
