NHL tries to slip MASSIVE news into free agent frenzy
The first day of NHL free agency was a busy news day, with over a billion dollars in contracts being handed out across the league.
Meanwhile, the NHL also decided to share some extremely controversial news in the midst of free agent frenzy, announcing that Joel Quenneville, Stan Bowman, and Al MacIsaac would be reinstated and are officially able to seek employment.
The three men have been unable to hold a position within the NHL since resigning from positions in October 2021, when it came to light through the NHL's investigation that they were aware of the sexual assault of Kyle Beach at the hands of a team employee, and failed to intervene.
Prior to the release of the findings, they denied any knowledge.
The NHL says they have put work into learning how to be a better leader, especially in the face of abuse.
While it is clear that, at the time, their responses were unacceptable, each of these three individuals has acknowledged that and used his time away from the game to engage in activities which, not only demonstrate sincere remorse for what happened, but also evidence greater awareness of the responsibilities that all NHL personnel have, particularly personnel who are in positions of leadership.
- statement from the NHL
Teams are not able to officially hire the three men until July 10.
