Canucks' Quinn Hughes ranked high on Sportsnet's top-50 players list
Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes was ranked pretty high up on Sportsnet's top-50 players list heading into the 2024-25 season.
On Friday, Sportsnet concluded their series ranking the top-50 players in the National Hockey League heading into the 2024-25 campaign, with players ten through one named.
Earlier in the week, J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson found their way onto Sportsnet's list as they were ranked 23rd and 25th respectively.
As we headed into Friday, there was one thing that was confirmed, Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes would be in Sportsnet's top-ten, but it was unclear how high up he would be ranked.
According to Sonny Sachdeva, Sportsnet's insiders who were polled have ranked Quinn Hughes as the eighth-best player in the National Hockey League.
"Hughes's debut season made clear he could be one of the game's premier offensive blue-liners. The next few years confirmed it. But the 2023-24 campaign pushed the 24-year-old into a different stratosphere, a 92-point outburst positioning him not only among the league's best rearguards, but among the best offensive practitioners full-stop. Captaining a Canucks team quickly becoming a force in the West, it's become a fool's errand trying to predict just how high Hughes can push his ceiling. He's done everything Vancouver has asked of him to this point. The next step: Bringing that dominance into the post-season and pulling the Canucks closer to banner-hanging territory." Sachdeva said.
Among the other names ahead of Quinn Hughes in the top-ten include Boston Bruins forward David Pastrnak (7th), Tampa Bay Lightning forward Nikita Kucherov (6th), Edmonton Oilers forward Leon Draisaitl (5th), Toronto Maple Leafs forward Auston Matthews (4th), Colorado Avalanche defenceman Cale Makar (3rd), Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon (2nd) and Edmonton Oilers forward Connor McDavid (1st).
Vancouver Canucks fans are excited to see what Quinn Hughes has in store for the 2024-25 season and if he's able to become only the seventh defenceman in National Hockey League history to reach the 100-point mark.
