A National Hockey League insider believes that the Detroit Red Wings hold an advantage over other teams in trade talks with the Vancouver Canucks for Quinn Hughes.

The Vancouver Canucks might not be making a lot of noise on the ice lately, but off of it the organization has been very busy with trade rumors swirling involving several of their players including captain Quinn Hughes.
While Patrik Allvin has made his pending unrestricted free agents and some veteran players available on the trade market, Quinn Hughes isn't one of them, for now, but rumors about his future in the Lower Mainland are getting louder.
"I believe Quinn and his agent are aware of the direction we want to go. And they're aware of the direction they want to go. Everybody wants to play on a winning team. But there's different reasons why people make decisions" Jim Rutherford said about Quinn Hughes recently.

NHL insider believes Detroit Red Wings hold advantage over other teams for Quinn Hughes

On Wednesday, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman was a guest on Morning Cuppa Hockey where he was asked about Quinn Hughes, his future in Vancouver and if a trade was possible this season before the deadline on March 6th.
When discussing potential landing spots for Quinn Hughes, Friedman believes that the Detroit Red Wings are a team to watch and might even have an advantage over other teams like the Philadelphia Flyers, who are also interested in Quinn Hughes.
The one thing that Detroit has that Philly doesn't is - they have a center. I do think when I rank the teams, and I say who can do this and where would Hughes want to go, I would say Detroit's very high on my list." Friedman said.

He added, "Can you see [Red Wings exec Steve Yzerman] not being interested in Quinn Hughes? Can you see Quinn Hughes not being interested in Detroit when the time comes? I think they're very legit, and Detroit has centers, and centers that have been playing in the NHL I think Detroit is a team to watch."

Among those in the Detroit Red Wings system that the Vancouver Canucks could target are Austrian centerman Marco Kasper, who Steve Yzerman selected eighth overall in 2022, as well as 2023 ninth overall pick Nate Danielson, who made his NHL debut back on November 9th.
Jim Rutherford stated recently that they'd like to get younger and if a Quinn Hughes trade were to materialize with the Detroit Red Wings in the months ahead, Marco Kasper & Nate Danielson would go a long way in helping the Canucks achieve that goal.
