Elias Pettersson Acknowledges His New Role with the Vancouver Canucks After Last Seasons Drama

Now considered an NHL veteran, Elias Pettersson knows it takes more than just putting up points to contribute to success, it takes leadership, and Pettersson aims to be a leader on and off the ice for the younger members of the Vancouver Canucks.
Petterson is coming off a couple off years, and for this season it's about getting back to his old form and being a role model for the rest of the team.
"In order for those goals to become a reality, the Canucks are going to need bounce backs from some of their biggest stars, including Elias Pettersson, who says he's out for revenge after training hard all summer long."-Jaxon
Elias Pettersson accepts his full responsibility as NHL veteran for the Vancouver Canucks.
Izzy Cheung of the Hockey News writes that Pettersson will take several steps forward this year, in not only his performance, but his leadership as well.
"You recognize it, and his teammates notice it, and his teammates are with him on it too, like [Demko] is with him, and you look at the great players that continue to be great. They keep getting better. Crosby, for example, he's always working on the game, no matter if he's in year 15. Ryan O'Reilly's that type of guy, and that's why they can keep staying in the game and keep improving every year on some of the things they've got to get better at."-Pettersson
While although Pettersson has had some off-seasons, his mindset hasn't changed. He still demonstrates his knowledge of the game, even though the execution might not be there. That knowledge is still passed on to his teammates to make them better around him. It seems as though Pettersson will be leading the top line with Brock Boeser and Jake Debrusk. And Debrusk has definitely noticed Pettersson's mind for the game.
"«I learned a lot, honestly, just in terms of how he wants to play the game, how he thinks the game, and kind of where he is on the ice. I think that was something that took a little longer than I would like to admit, for me to figure out. I didn't really know where to go on the ice when he was there. Kind of funny because he's such a good player, you've got to pretty much get to the net or get to the scoring areas.»-Debrusk
Elias Pettersson has not only the opportunity to regain his status as an elite scorer in the NHL. But he can continue to cement his legacy through his leadership, similar to the likes of Crosby, MacKinnon and McDavid.
