Vancouver Canucks Head Coach Adam Foote says he's pleased with what he's seen from Elias Pettersson so far in training camp as the Swede gears up for a bounce back season.

The start of the 2025-26 season is almost upon us and for the Vancouver Canucks, there's no doubt their goal this year is to make it back to the Stanley Cup Playoffs after a difficult and frustrating 2024-25 campaign.
In order for those goals to become a reality, the Canucks are going to need bounce backs from some of their biggest stars, including Elias Pettersson, who says he's out for revenge after training hard all summer long.
Pettersson showed up to training camp in great shape, telling reporters that he put on 13 pounds of muscle during the summer and as he gears up for that bounce back season, it appears that he's already leaving a strong impression, including on his Head Coach, Adam Foote.

On Thursday, Adam Foote was a guest on The Ray and Dregs Podcast with Ray Ferraro and Darren Dreger where he shared how he's feeling about Elias Pettersson heading into the new season.
Foote says that the added weight Pettersson put on this summer has made him a lot stronger and the team overall was quite pleased with how he did during their annual skate test at the start of training camp.
"Yeah, I mean, he seems good. He put on some weight, but what I like about the weight he put on as he got close to, you know...when you can carry your weight in the NHL, if you can get close to 20 pull ups, that's my belief. And he was right there, which was very impressive." Foote said.

He added, "If you're going to gain some weight and you can only push seven or eight pull ups, he might not be able to carry that weight. And I mean, it's different for younger guys, like a 20-year-old that's not developed. But that was a key point and his skate test was better."
With the added muscle, Pettersson says he's feeling good ahead of his eighth season in the National Hockey League, which is a great sign for the Canucks and their fans.
"Obviously, I'm not happy with how last year was. That's in the past. I just want to get back to myself and be the leader player I know I can be, and what I can do is only focus on today," Pettersson said according to Izzy Cheung of The Hockey News.

He added, "I'm happy where I'm at. Definitely feel stronger. Shot's a little harder. Just overall, feel stronger and better."

Canucks fans could get their first look at Elias Pettersson on Friday night as Vancouver welcomes the Seattle Kraken to Rogers Arena for their third game of the preseason. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. PT on Sportsnet Pacific.
