The Vancouver Canucks have shown they aren't attached to any of their players currently, after the Quinn Hughes to Minnesota Wild trade, all bets are off, and Elias Pettersson could be next, a potential destination could be the Toronto Maple Leafs.
"Now, with a rumoured rebuild on the horizon for the Vancouver Canucks, the team is looking to get younger, and with Quinn Hughes gone, Elias Pettersson may be the next one out the door, especially after not living up to his massive 8 year, $92,800,000 contract with a cap hit of $11,600,000 per season."-Mitchell
Elias Pettersson could be a great fit in Toronto with the Maple Leafs.
Austin Kelly of Hockey Patrol reports on the likelihood of Pettersson ending up in Toronto. It would be hard to acquire him however as the Maple Leafs do not have the young established players the Wild had like Zeev Buium for example, but it can still be done.
"An established player could still headline a return for Pettersson, a player such as Easton Cowan as key to a return, along with a top prospect such as Ben Danford along with a first round pick. The trade proposal is an idea of the potential framework that could go into a deal, not a confirmed trade proposal but what one could look like on Toronto's end, one similar to a proposed package from Montreal."-Kelly
Pettersson has been out for eight games due to an upper-body injury, but he was starting to perform like his old self again before getting injured. With reports of him not getting along with multiple people in the locker room, a change of scenery might be what he needs. And the Canucks can get some young talent in return to continue their so called hybrid retool.
