A new hypothetical blockbuster trade proposal has emerged sending $92.8 million Vancouver Canucks star to the Montreal Canadiens in a five-player deal, that in all honesty, doesn't really make much sense.

After signing his big ticket in March of 2024, Canucks star center Elias Pettersson is now making $11.6 million dollars per year to be the game breaker Vancouver needs, but unfortunately, the exact opposite has occurred.
On top of scoring just half the points he achieved in the 2023-2024 season with 15 goals and 30 assists for 45 points, that was the least of his issues as his highly conflicted riff with former teammate J.T. Miller become the main headline of the Canucks season.

Montreal Canadiens Trade Proposal for Vancouver Canucks Star forward Elias Pettersson

With Pettersson's lack of cohesion and production, rumors have been flying about EP40's future with the team, with may reports claiming that the Canucks could be open to moving him before his no-trade clause kicks in on July 1st.
One team that has been rumored to be in the mix for a highly skilled 1st/2nd line center is the Montreal Canadiens, who have a long list of names that they could be willing to give up in order get them to the next level.
In the hypothetical trade proposal, the Canadiens would send over 2 first-round picks and four players, including Patrik Laine and Kirby Dach, to Vancouver. Pettersson.
Canucks acquire:
- Patrik Laine
- Kirby Dach
- Michael Hage (signing rights)
- Logan Mailloux
- 2025 first-round pick (Calgary)
- 2025 first-round pick

Canadiens Acquire:
- Elias Pettersson

Obviously, for how Elias Pettersson performed last season and the salary he earns, it is pretty unlikely that the Canucks would be able to get this massive of a return package.
The best case scenario is that Pettersson has bounce back season and they either keep him, or move him at the deadline if he is open to relinquishing his no-move clause.
If the Canadiens do offer this, there is no way they can turn it down.
