A former Vancouver Canucks shared his thoughts this week following a big update from Swedish forward Elias Pettersson heading into what he hopes is a bounce back season.

After a tough 2024-25 season, Elias Pettersson has turned the page and is "out for revenge" this coming season with fans excited to see what he has in store for his eighth year with the club.
Earlier this week, while at the team's annual charity golf tournament, Pettersson spoke with reporters where he gave a pretty big update, saying that he has added 6 kilos (13.2 lbs) and is feeling very confident ahead of training camp.
"Elias Pettersson (the forward), speaking ahead of the Jake Milford this morning in Surrey, says he put on 6 kilos in the summer and is feeling confident heading into the season." Brendan Batchelor of Sportsnet said on X this week.

Former Vancouver Canucks shares thoughts after Elias Pettersson's big update

Former Vancouver Canucks defenseman Frank Corrado was a guest on Sekeres & Price on Thursday and was asked about Elias Pettersson putting on 13 pounds this summer.
While some are worried that putting on that much weight will make the Swedish forward slower, Corrado isn't buying that, adding that it's going to help him in a big way during puck and board battles.
"I think that like the first thing that comes to mind is not getting pushed off pucks, just not getting squeezed in certain scenarios. You should be able to lean in a little bit more and extra weight doesn't mean slower. Like if you got stronger, you should be faster, you should have a little more explosiveness coming out of the gate." Corrado said.

He added, "So I think those are the two things that I'm going to look for with Pettersson. Not necessarily, you know like, I don't know, 5, 6, 7 strides in, you usually get to your speed, it's just how quickly can you accelerate to it. I think that's where it's important for him to see if he made some strides."
Pettersson has been working hard this summer in order to bounce back for the Canucks, even spending some time with a skills coach in Sweden, who had some high praise for the forward recently and he believes it's going to be a great season for the Sundsvall native.
"Elias is one of the most complex, exciting but also most elusive players I have ever come into contact with. A top athlete combined with a great artist. He can do things out on the ice that no other player in the entire world can do. Things that are almost difficult to discover and understand sometimes. Challenging Elias as a skills coach is difficult. I feel a tension, almost a little nervousness, before all our sessions together as I know that I am facing a challenging situation as a coach. I have to deliver at my top level. And I love that nerve.

And this summer has been awesome! Elias is stronger physically than ever before but above all there is now a balance between his physical and technical skill set. One of the strongest memories from our summer together is when his hip and upper body «clicked». With that, so many pieces fell into place. He takes on speed and power with smoothness. His flow is on 🔥!

I'm really excited and I can't wait to see you in action this winter. Thank you for a great summer @_eliaspettersson 💥⭐️

Play hard and enjoy the game this season." Skills coach Daniel Broberg said on Instagram."

With the 2025-26 season quickly approaching, it's going to be interesting to see if Elias Pettersson is able to bounce back in a big way for the club and even if he's not able to reach the 100-point mark, if he manages to be a point-per-game player, that'll be perfect for the Canucks.

Do you think Elias Pettersson adding 6 kilos (13.2 lbs) will help him this season or will it, no pun intended, weigh him down?
