Former Vancouver Canucks defenseman Ethan Bear has landed a new contract in the National Hockey League after spending all of the 2024-25 campaign in the AHL.

After playing all of the 2024-25 season in the American Hockey League with the Hershey Bears, affiliate of the Washington Capitals, Ethan Bear wanted an NHL opportunity.
In mid-June, Washington Capitals reportedly granted him permission to speak with other teams around the National Hockey League and just a few weeks later, he's found his new home.

Just under two hours into the NHL's free agency window, Peter Baugh of The Athletic reported that the New York Islanders have agreed to terms on a one-year two way contract with Ethan Bear.
"Ethan Bear is signing with the Islanders on a two-way contract, per source." Baugh said.
According to PuckPedia, Ethan Bear's contract comes with an average annual value (AAV) of $775,000 US, the league minimum, along with a guarantee of $425,000 and a minors salary of $325,000.

Bear, 28, spent one season with the Vancouver Canucks after being traded to them in October 2022 and he played quite well, registering 16 points (three goals, 13 assists), 25 penalty minutes and was a plus-six in 61 games while primarily in a bottom pairing role.
After the 2022-23 season, Bear went to the IIHF World Championship where he suffered a shoulder injury that required surgery and as a result, the Vancouver Canucks decided not to issue him a qualifying offer, making him an unrestricted free agent.
The Regina native will make a push for the New York Islanders' opening night roster this fall, but there's a good chance he may have to start the season with AHL Bridgeport.
