The hockey world is mourning the loss of a Hall of Famer and a three-time Stanley Cup champion on Tuesday at the age of 93-years-old.

As we've mentioned before, 2025 has been a very tough year for the hockey community as we've sadly lost a number of former NHLers including former Vancouver Canucks goaltender Frank Caprice.
On Tuesday, the hockey world has lost an all-time great, someone who was inducted into the Hall of Fame nearly 50 years ago and in 2017, was named one of the NHL's 100 Best Players of All-Time during the league's Centennial season.

Hockey Hall of Famer, Three-time Stanley Cup champion passes away at 93-years-old

In a press release posted on social media today, the Detroit Red Wings announced that their former captain Alex Delvecchio, who helped them win the Stanley Cup in 1952, 1954 and 1955, has sadly passed away at the age of 93.
"To our Red Wings fans, friends and hockey community,

It is with great sadness that we shared the passing of our beloved Alex Delvecchio, who left us peacefully on July 1, 2025, surrounded by family at the age of 93 years old.

Alex was more than a Hockey icon, he was a devoted husband, loving father, grandfather, great grandfather, cherished friend and respected teammate to so many. While the world knew him as an incredible hockey player with numerous accomplishments on the ice, we knew him as someone whose humility, strength, kindness and heart were even greater than his professional achievements. For decades, your love and support meant everything to Alex and to all of us. We are deeply grateful and thankful to everyone.

- The Delvecchio Family."
Delvecchio's National Hockey League career began during the 1950-51 season when he appeared in one game with the Detroit Red Wings, but spent the majority of the year with the Oshawa Generals.
In 1,550 career games, Delvecchio put up 1,281 points (456 goals, 825 assists) to go along with his three Stanley Cups and participated at the NHL All-Star Game 13 times.
Three years after his retirement, Delvecchio was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame and his saw his number 10 raised to the rafters in Detroit in 1991.
The thoughts of everyone here at Canucks Daily are with the family and friends of Alex Delvecchio at this difficult time.
