Former Vancouver Canucks Forward Lands Big Coaching Job After 8-Year Absence From Hockey
A former Vancouver Canucks and National Hockey League forward has found a new coaching job in hockey, with his team's training camp beginning in a matter of weeks.
It's been a very busy summer on the ice for several former members of the Vancouver Canucks organization, with a number of them heading overseas to play in Europe, most recently Daniel Sprong,
who signed in the KHL.
This week, another former Vancouver Canucks has landed a new job in hockey and is set to be behind the bench in the Western Hockey League.

In a press release on Friday, the Western Hockey League's Calgary Hitmen announced a slew of changes to their coaching staff, naming Dustin Friesen as their bench boss, while promoted Dakota Krebs - brother of Buffalo Sabres forward
Peyton Krebs - from video coach to Assistant Coach.
Along with Friesen and Krebs, former Vancouver Canucks forward Brad Moran will be joining the Hitmen's bench as an Assistant Coach after seven seasons with the AJHL's Calgary Canucks, including the last six as their Head Coach & General Manager.
This past season, Moran led the Calgary Canucks to a Centennial Cup championship in 2025, as they were crowned the best Junior A team in all of Canada.
"Joining Friesen on the bench is Hitmen alumnus Brad Moran as assistant coach. Moran played five seasons with the Hitmen from 1995 to 2000. Following a successful career as a player, Moran transitioned into coaching and has spent the past seven years with the AJHL's Calgary Canucks. As Head Coach and General Manager for the last six seasons, he guided the team to two AJHL championships and, most recently, a Centennial Cup title in 2025.
Moran remains the Hitmen franchise's all-time leader in games played (357), goals, assists, and points, with an impressive 450 points (204 goals, 246 assists). His number 20 is the only jersey number retired by the Calgary Hitmen organization." the Hitmen said in their press release.
Moran, a native of Abbotsford, British Columbia, appeared in just three games as a Vancouver Canuck during the 2006-07 campaign, while also skating in 143 contests with their AHL affiliate at the time, the Manitoba Moose, where he had a whopping 149 points.
The 46-year-old split his professional hockey career between the American Hockey League and Europe, making stops in Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Austria and England before retiring in 2017 to pursue coaching.
Moran will make his debut behind the bench with the Calgary Hitmen on the road on Friday, September 19th against the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
