Former Vancouver Canucks goaltender Arturs Silovs has spoken for the first time since Patrik Allvin traded him to the Pittsburgh Penguins back in the middle of July.

The Vancouver Canucks were facing a logjam in the crease heading into the 2025-26 season with Thatcher Demko and Kevin Lankinen lined up to be their two goaltenders on the NHL roster, while Arturs Silovs was ready to make the jump on a full-time basis after leading the Abbotsford Canucks to their first-ever Calder Cup championship.
In order to not lose Arturs Silovs for nothing by placing him on waivers at the end of training camp, Patrik Allvin took a proactive approach this summer and traded him to the Pittsburgh Penguins for forward Chase Stillman and a fourth round pick in the 2028 NHL Entry Draft.
"It's a simple swap out, and it's the same message as it was in April. We have two young goalies who have extremely high potential in Joel Blomqvist and Sergei Murashov... and we have Tristan and Arturs that are a little bit older, a little bit more advanced... They'll start competing here today, and the best two goalies will determine who starts with the Penguins. Their contracts, their situations, none of that matters." Penguins GM Kyle Dubas said recently about the team's goaltending situation.

Arturs Silovs speaks to reporters for first time since being traded by Vancouver Canucks

After the first couple days of training camp with his new club, former Vancouver Canucks goaltender Arturs Silovs spoke to reporters where he opened up about being traded to Pittsburgh.
Silovs said that being traded by Vancouver was a good for him and will give him a chance to play at the National Hockey League level, adding that it was tough dealing with the goaltending logjam last season.
"I thought it's a great thing for me, having an opportunity to play. Because, I mean, it's been tough. It's been tough road sitting with the three goalies down there. I think it's a phenomenal opportunity to play in the NHL. I just want to seize it and do my best." Silovs said.

The Riga, Latvia native ended his time in the Vancouver Canucks organization with 29 appearances with the big club, ten of which came during the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs due to injuries to Thatcher Demko and Casey DeSmith.
It's safe to say that Silovs is ready to be in the National Hockey League on a full-time basis, especially after the performance he put up throughout the Calder Cup Playoffs, so it's going to be interesting to see what the Penguins decide to do ahead of their first game of the 2025-26 season on Tuesday, October 7th.
