A former Vancouver Canucks & National Hockey League goaltender has had his contract terminated overseas in Europe two months into the 2025-26 season.
With November upon us, most leagues across Europe are entering the second month of their respective 2025-26 seasons, including the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL),
which is home to several former Vancouver Canucks including Daniel Sprong, Josh Leivo, Spencer Martin, among others.
While it's been a great season for some, while for others, it hasn't been and for the second time in as many weeks, a former Vancouver Canuck
has had their contract terminated overseas with Nic Petan parting ways with HC Ambri-Piotta in Switzerland's National League and today, a netminder who was with the club during their 50th anniversary season is looking for a new home.
Former Vancouver Canucks goaltender has contract terminated overseas
During the offseason, after not receiving any strong offers to remain in the NHL or AHL, former Vancouver Canucks goaltender Louis Domingue decided to leave North America for the first time in his professional hockey career,
signing a one-year deal with KHL club HC Sibir Novosibirsk.
Note: the quotes in this story are translated from Russian.
"Hockey club Sibir signed a one-year contract with 33-year-old Canadian goalie Louis Domingue." the team said.
HC Sibir Novosibirsk haven't had the best of starts to the 2025-26 season and currently sit last in the Chernyshev Division with a 7-14 record through 21 games and with Louis Domingue not winning a single game with the club, he has decided to depart the organization
In a press release on Monday, HC Sibir Novosibirsk announced that they have terminated the contract of Louis Domingue with immediate effect due to family reasons, making him a free agent for the second time in four months.
"Louis Domingue is leaving Sibir due to family reasons.
The goalkeeper has one win for our team, playing a total of 11 matches.
We thank Louis for his work and wish him success in his future career!" the club's statement read.
Despite mentioning that Domingue won a game for the club, major stats websites such as Elite Prospects and HockeyDB say otherwise, with the St-Hyacinthe, Quebec native having an 0-9-2 record, with a 3.83 goals against average and an .892 save percentage in 11 games.
It's unclear what comes next for Louis Domingue, but everyone here at Canucks Daily would like to wish him all the best for the future.
