How Aggressive are the Vancouver Canucks Being in Order to Snatch Up Bowen Byram from the Buffalo Sabres?
The Vancouver Canucks have clear ambitions to make a trade in the near future to upgrade some concerning areas in their lineup, and Bowen Byram of the Buffalo Sabres has peaked their interest, but how aggressive are they being to bring him back to his hometown of B.C.?
For the last two weeks, NHL Insiders like Frank Seravalli, Elliotte Friedman and Darren Dreger have been pretty vocal about the rumblings of Patrik Allvin trying to Acquire a second paring D-man.
Today, Elliotte Friedman went on the Donnie & Dhali podcast to discuss the latest news on the Vancouver Canucks' trade rumors.
The Vancouver Canucks not that aggressive on acquiring Bowen Byram
Friedman did start off saying that Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin are constantly on the look out, sending out feelers with the main target being a defenseman, but ideally, they really want Bowen Byram form the Sabres.
With other NHL clubs like the New York Rangers running into injury problems, and Utah also needing upgrades, the challenge to land a big name in a limited market has made the task a lot harder than expected.
When describing the aggressiveness/urgency the Canucks seem to have at landing a name like Byram, the description was pretty weak.
Describing the team's approach as «fly fishing,» Friedman highlighted that Rutherford and Allvin are «going out there and going for stuff» to strengthen the roster.
It has already been reported that they made phone calls to land Bowen Byram
It does not mean that Allvin and Rutherford's attitude can't change at any second, but for right now, they gave an alternative option, to look for depth and replacements from their farm system internally.
It is always cheaper and more efficient to look within your own organization to find a good fit at a place that seems lacking. The only question is, the Canucks want to win right now, and sometimes the best plan is to go out and get a solidified player.
«The best way to solve your problemis always internally,» Friedman noted, reflecting Rutherford's philosophy of fostering talent development before making external moves.
