Another draft target has emerged for the Vancouver Canucks and General Manager Patrik Allvin to consider as they weigh their options with each of their seven picks

In seven weeks, the Vancouver Canucks and the rest of the NHLwill descend on the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California for the 2025 Entry Draft and things will look a bit different this time around, with the league decentralizing the process.
On Monday, the Vancouver Canucks got confirmation of where they'll be selecting in the first round of this year's NHL Entry Draft and already, several different players have been mentioned as targets for Patrik Allvin to use that pick on, however, who could the team look at in the later rounds?

Another draft target emerges for Vancouver Canucks

In a recent article on The Hockey News, Adam Kierszenblat took a look at a potential player that the Vancouver Canucks could use their third round pick (65th overall) on and that happens to be defenseman Alex Huang out of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League.
Huang just completed his second season in the QMJHL with the Chicoutimi Sagueneens where he saw a point total increase of four, while also refining his game in his own zone when compared to his rookie campaign in 2023-24.
"One area of need for the Canucks is puck-moving, right-shot defenceman. That is exactly what Huang can bring to the organization." Kierszenblat said.

He added, "Huang's biggest strength in the offensive zone is his playmaking ability. He likes to pinch in from the blue line and is constantly moving with the puck on his stick to open up passing lanes. The next step in his development will be to strengthen his shot so that he can add another layer to his offensive game."

In their final rankings for the 2025 Entry Draft, NHL Central Scouting had Alex Huang at 75th among North American skaters, a rise of 13 spots from their mid-season rankings.
Following his season in Chicoutimi, Huang was named to Canada's roster for the IIHF U18 Men's World Championship and played really well, registering four assists in six games, helping them take home the gold medal.
Some other players to keep an eye on for Vancouver with the 65th overall pick are Lukas Sawchyn (LW) of the WHL's Edmonton Oil Kings, Quinn Beauchesne (D) of the OHL's Guelph Storm and Tomas Galvas (D) of Liberec in the Czech Extraliga.
