The Vancouver Canucks' GM, Patrik Allvin, will have a lot of things to do as they head to free agency, with nothing less than eleven players about to hit the market.

Filip Hronek, the Canucks' top restricted free agent, has been involved in all sorts of rumours since the season ended. The right-handed defenseman's contract is ending, and following a career-high season, he's due for a big raise. The latest reports suggest that his current ask stands around $8M per year, and the Canucks have stated they aren't willing to go there.

The disagreement led to Hronek being involved in trade rumours, and with the Canucks looking to add a forward and the Hurricanes about to part ways with their skilled and young Martin Necas, the dots connected.

However, reports confirmed that the Canucks' interest in Necas was real, but the Hurricanes shouldn't be interested in acquiring Hronek:

Don't expect the Carolina Hurricanes to have interest in Filip Hronek.

Even for the Canucks, to trade Hronek without getting a replacement wouldn't make sense. Before acquiring his services, Allvin had been looking to find a right-handed shot partner for Quinn Hughes.

They traded Bo Horvat to acquire Filip Hronek; why would they trade Hronek for a forward only to be back where they started?
