'Inside Days': TSN's Darren Dreger Drops Major Injury Update on Vancouver Canucks Star Goalie Thatcher Demko
A new report by TSN's Darren Dreger reveals that Thatcher Demko is set to return to the Vancouver Canucks, with a timeline of sooner rather than later.
According to Dreger, who intentionally left out a specific timeline on the return, stated that a return is imminent, and could be inside a matter of days.
The Vancouver Canucks are set to get star goaltender Thatcher Demko back «inside days» according to NHL insider Darren Dreger.
On the most recent episode of the Sekeres and Price Show, Darren Dreger was invited on to discuss with Matt Sekeres and Blake Price the Vancouver Canucks, and specifically the injury of Thatcher Demko.
«We know that he's a full participant now with the Vancouver Canucks and that boads well. I mean, his expected return is imminent. I would say sooner rather than later.
Again I'm dodging the specific timeline because I don't think that they [the Canucks] have a specific date in mind or at least one that they're willing to disclose at this point.
In general, the Vancouver Canucks have been pretty quit on providing updates on Thatcher Demko, even avoiding discussing his training and practice regiments.
Every time Demko was seen training or practicing, whether it was with the team or not, it has felt like a monumental big foot sighting.
But with Demko participating in full practices, it has been harder to stay quiet on his health.
The only indication I was given this morning is that he looks good and they'd like to see him get more reps to get fully up to NHL regular season game speed, but they like what they're seeing in practice, so it does feel like it's inside days now.
A big aspect to when he is ready all depends on Thatcher Demko himself, when he comes out to the coaches and management and says that he is ready to go, and Darren Dreger feels the team is waiting for this conversation.
So how many reps is a number of reps to get him up to full speed? That might be something that just has to be gauged practice by practice, day by day, skate by skate, you know when Demko says ''yeah, you know what?
I'm ready, I feel like I'm good to go'', and he passes the eye test from all involved in that decision making, then he'll be welcomed back.
Thatcher Demko has been sidelined with a knee injury since last years round one matchup against the Nashville Predators.
With Kevin Lankinen and Arturs Silovs not playing at the top of their abilities in the last few games, Canucks fans are eagerly waiting the return of their Vezina caliber goalie.
