An insider has given a big update on Thatcher Demko's future with the Vancouver Canucks, with the netminder eligible to sign an extension nine days from now.

The last 12+ months have been quite difficult for Vancouver Canucks goaltender Thatcher Demko due to injury issues, including one that kept him out for essentially the entirety of their 2024 Stanley Cup Playoff run and he didn't make his 2024-25 season debut until early December.
Thatcher Demko is set to enter the final year of his contract in the fall, is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1st, 2026, and quite frankly, it's unclear what the future holds for him in Vancouver.
The play of Arturs Silovs in the Calder Cup Playoffs could make Thatcher Demko expendable this summer, however according to one insider, his camp and the Canucks may start talks on an extension soon.

Rick Dhaliwal gives update on Thatcher Demko's future with the Vancouver Canucks

During Friday's edition of Donnie & Dhali, Rick Dhaliwal gave updates on several members of the Vancouver Canucks, including goaltender Thatcher Demko, along with pending UFAs Brock Boeser and Pius Suter.
According to Dhaliwal, he's expecting the Vancouver Canucks and Thatcher Demko to get to work on a contract extension in the near future, with the San Diego native becoming eligible to put pen-to-paper as of Canada Day.
While the two sides may engage in contract talks soon, it's unclear if it'll lead to a deal getting done, especially if Thatcher Demko isn't sure if he wants to stay if the club isn't going to be a contender.
The fact the Canucks alsosigned Kevin Lankinen to a five-year extension back in February, which could limit his starts going forward and force him into a 1A/1B situation, may play a role in Demko's decision to re-sign or not.
Back at the end of May, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reported that Thatcher Demko is open to a change of scenery this summer and could be in play on the trade market this summer.
"Goalie Thatcher Demko appears open to a change of scenery and is expected to be in play as he enters the final year of his contract." Pagnotta said.

In 23 games this season, Demko had a 10-8-3 record along with a 2.90 goals against average, an .889 save percentage and one shutout.
Vancouver's goaltending situation will be interesting to watch over the summer, especially if any teams come calling on Thatcher Demko or even Arturs Silovs, who's value is quite high given how he's performed in the postseason for Abbotsford.
