An NHL insider has revealed that the Vancouver Canucks have increased their offer to top prospect Tom Willander, who is ready to make the jump to professional hockey next season.
One month after becoming eligible to sign his entry-level contract with the Vancouver Canucks, top prospect Tom Willander is still without a deal and after attending Sweden's training camp ahead of the World Championship, he remained in his home country to prepare for the 2025-26 campaign.
The Vancouver Canucks have been working hard to get Tom Willander under contract, but the top prospect said in late April that a deal is
not close to being done and he hasn't thought much about it.
Insider says Vancouver Canucks increase offer to Tom Willander
Last month, Rick Dhaliwal of
Donnie & Dhali shared that he heard the Vancouver Canucks and Tom Willander
are only separated by about $200,000, while other say there's been issues with agreeing on Schedule A bonuses.
"Most people you talk with around the league are surprised the Canucks are doing this with a first round pick. Funny this is, they're not super far apart. The two sides have dug in their heels though. Some day the gap is only $200,000." Dhaliwal said.
During an appearance on Halford and Brough on Friday, Rick Dhaliwal gave an update on contract negotiations between the two sides and said that the Vancouver Canucks have increased their offer and are closer to bridging the gap.
"I don't even think the gap is that far. The gap is close. The Canucks have gone up." Dhaliwal said.
Dhaliwal also shared that it's expected Tom Willander will turn pro, either with a European team or with the Vancouver Canucks and that we could get some news on his plans this week.
"He's going to turn pro either in Europe or with the Canucks this time next week we should know where he's signing. It'll either be in Europe or in Vancouver," Dhaliwal said.
Willander, 20, registered 24 points (two goals, 22 assists), eight penalty minutes and was a plus-19 in 39 games during his sophomore season with Boston University.
