Veteran NHL referee Wes MacCauley is being accused of game fixing by fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs fans, continuing a stunning track record of losing games officiated by MacCauley for the Leafs.
Leafs lose again with Wes MacCauley on ice
The Leafs have now fallen to an abysmal 0-9 records in games refereed by Wes MacAuley after Friday night's OT loss to the Florida Panthers, and fans were quick to point out the referee's presence after the loss.
The Leafs had a chance to take a 3-0 series lead over the defending champion Florida Panthers, before
Brad Marchand scored in overtime.
Some fans have complained that there were not enough penalties called against the Panthers.
The referee drama just adds to what has already been a tense series, which includes a concussion to Leafs goaltender
Anthony Stolarz from a
Sam Bennett play which didn't result in discipline.
The Leafs will likely have to find a way to win even with Wes MacCauley involved if they have any hope of a deeper playoff run, as the veteran official is more than likely to be among the officials used deep into the playoffs.
The Leafs and Panthers play at 4:30 PST in Florida on Sunday night, Gord Dwyer and Francis Charron are expected to referee.
