LATEST | Elias Pettersson makes his first comments after signing huge extension
Vancouver Canucks fans woke up to news they've been waiting for - an Elias Pettersson contract extension.
On Saturday morning, it was announced by the team that Elias Pettersson has agreed to terms on an eight-year contract extension, with multiple sources revealing that his average annual value (AAV) is $11.6 million.
Following the news of his extension being made public, Elias Pettersson made his first comments, saying that he's pleased to continue his career as a member of the Vancouver Canucks organization.
"This is an inspiring day for my family. I am thrilled to be continuing my career as a member of the Vancouver Canucks. I love this city and playing in front of the fans. We have an exciting group and believe we can do good things in the future. Jim Rutherford and Patrik Allvin have done a great job building this team and creating a culture along with Rick Tocchet. And lastly, I want to thank the Aquilini family for this opportunity." Pettersson said.
Pettersson, a native of Sundsvall, Sweden, is well on his way to a second consecutive season of 100+ points, which is why he's earned such a massive extension from the Canucks. In 62 games, he's recorded 75 points (29 goals, 46 assists), eight penalty minutes and is a plus-12.
Moments later, Pettersson's agent, Pat Brisson, commented on the events. Both sides are happy with the outcome:
Pettersson agent Pat Brisson - We are delighted that Elias has signed for eight years. Elias made the decision to sign long term with the #Canucks and we negotiated with the Canucks, it's a great day for both sides.
