The Vancouver Canucks appear to be getting closer to locking up forward Elias Pettersson to a long-term contract extension after a report came out on Wednesday from Frank Seravalli saying that they've made significant progress on getting an eight-year deal done.

When the contract is signed, it'll more than likely be the largest contract in Vancouver Canucks history in terms of average annual value and total dollars and this morning, Frank Seravalli gave an update on how much Pettersson will be earning per season.

During his DFO Podcast on Thursday, Seravalli said that Elias Pettersson's average annual value (AAV) on his new contract will start with the number 12, meaning at minimum, he'll be earning $12 million per season.

" The number starts with a 12." Seravalli said.

Seravalli also mentioned that while he doesn't know the total dollar amount of the contract extension, which is supposed to be eight-years, but it is approaching $100 million.

"To recap the latest from Seravalli:

- Number starts with a 12
- 8 years
- Doesn't have total money yet but approaching 100 mill
- Pettersson went to Canucks early this week and said let's get a deal done.

(DFO pod)"

Pettersson has certainly earned this contract, especially with his strong play over the last couple of seasons. Last year, he reached and surpassed the 100-point mark for the first time in his career and this season, he's well on his way to hitting the milestone for a second consecutive campaign.
