Now that the Vancouver Canucks have locked up Elias Pettersson to a long-term contract, Patrik Allvin and his group can turn their attention towards another pending restricted free agent - Filip Hronek.
Hronek, who is having the best season of his National Hockey League career so far, is set to become a restricted free agent this summer and rumours have been flying on whether or not the team will be able to re-sign him at a potential cap hit of over $8 million.
On Friday's edition of the 32 Thoughts podcast, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman provided an update on Filip Hronek's situation with the Vancouver Canucks and his chances of re-signing with the team and it's something the fans will be glad to hear.
As mentioned, the 26-year-old is having the best season of his career so far, putting up 45 points (five goals, 40 assists), 36 penalty minutes and is a plus-34 in 67 games.
The Canucks clearly view Filip Hronek as a big piece of the future and are hopeful they can keep him around for years to come. With prospects like Tom Willander and Elias Pettersson on the way and Quinn Hughes already one of the best defencemen in the league, the Canucks are poised to have one of the best defensive corps in the entire NHL.
