Amid the departure of Vancouver Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet on Tuesday, a new report has indicated that captain Quinn Hughes is not happy about the team's way of handling the situation, and could to part ways once his contract expires in 2027.

After months of speculation that Rick Tocchet had no desire to return as the Vancouver Canucks head coach for the 2025-2026 NHL season, the team got their answer yesterday when Tocchet decided he was going to explore his options around the game oh hockey.
It was clear the all the warning signs were justified as Tocchet straight up refused to negotiate a contract through out the season...

Is Quinn Hughes upset about how ownership and management is handling the Vancouver Canucks organization?

The entire 2024-2025 season was beyond gong show for the Canucks, dealing with constant injuries, drama, rumors and bad decision that is making the organization a laughing stock of the National Hockey League.
Now, amid all the controversy, the team's priority is to keep their captain and MVP Quinn Hughes around when his contract expires in 2027, but a lot of signs point to him following the footsteps of Rick Tocchet, especially after Jim Rutherford's comments.
Rutherford revealed in the Tuesday press conference that Quinn Hughes did not answer, nor return his calls when attempting to break the news that Tocchet was not returning as head coach.
"I hope he's playing golf because he usually returns my calls right away and I called him within half-an-hour of talking to Rick and he hasn't called me back," says Jim Rutherford when asked if he's talked to Quinn Hughes about Tocchet's departure. - Rutherford
The Canucks president was clearly taken back by this, admitting that it's completely uncharacteristic of the captain to do so.
It was clear from the beginning and through out his tenure as the leader behind the bench, Tocchet and Hughes had a very close relationship, and the news that he would not be returning, even with a strong attempt by management could have rubbed him the wrong way.
Jim Rutherford called Quinn Hughes to discuss Rick Tocchet but he hasn't heard back from the captain just yet.

Hughes and Tocchet had a close relationship per Rutherford.
The 2025-2026 season will be the most telling if Hughes has the desire to stay as the captain of the Canucks for the remainder of his career.
