MAJOR | Patrik Allvin finally made an official roster announcement regarding the young Elias Pettersson
The Vancouver Canucks organization is set to get a massive boost as one of their top prospects is officially heading to North America.
With his season coming to an end recently in Sweden, the Canucks announced on Wednesday that defensive prospect
Elias Pettersson will be coming over to North America and has been assigned to the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks.
"General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that D Elias Pettersson has been assigned to Abbotsford (AHL) from Orebro." The Canucks said in a post on X.
Pettersson, 20, was selected in the third round, 80th overall, by the Canucks in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft and last April, signed his three-year, entry-level contract with the organization.
The Vasteras native has spent the majority in Sweden's second division, HockeyAllsvenskan, with his hometown team, Vasteras IK, on loan from SHL club Orebro HK. In 34 games for Vasteras IK, Pettersson had 14 points (three goals, 11 assists), eight penalty minutes and was a minus-one.
It's unclear when Pettersson will get into game action with the Abbotsford Canucks, but it could be very soon, depending on when he arrives in British Columbia. The Abbotsford Canucks are in the midst of a playoff race in the AHL's Western Conference and currently sit five points back of the Tucson Roadrunners for second in the Pacific Division.
Do you think Elias Pettersson will appear in any games for Vancouver this season or is it more likely he'll make his NHL debut next season? Let us know what you think in the poll below!
