LATEST | Nils Hoglander tells his origin story: It explains everything
Nils Hoglander has already set career-highs in goals (20) and points (31) in just 64 games so far this season. His elevated level of play has been a reassuring sight to see for Canucks fans, especially after his demotion to the AHL's Abbotsford Canucks last season.
Hoglander, 23, was born in Bocktrask, Sweden. Situated in the very north of the country, situated just outside of the Arctic Circle.
In an interview with The Province, Hoglander recounts how the town of just 20 civilians taught him to enjoy the outdoors, rarely spending time inside to watch the sport he loved. He notes the long commute him and his parents would take, as well as them allowing him to enjoy hockey without putting intense pressure on him at such a young age.
His upbringing taught him his current work ethic, consistently staying out late after practices to continue to strive to be better. Surely, a very encouraging sign for Canucks fans. He also mentions the influence Abbotsford's coach, Jeremy Colliton, had on him during his stint there in 2022-23, helping shape him into the player he has blossomed into. He also notes his good relationship with coach Rick Tocchet.
Uniquely, Hoglander also mentions a hidden talent he possesses unicycling. Certainly not near the top of most fans' lists of potential hidden talents for the young forward.
