Aquilini has officially resigned as one of the owners of the Vancouver Canucks
A member of the Vancouver Canucks' ownership group has left the team on Friday following a rumor that was circulating about the club potentially going up for sale.
That report was
quickly shot down on Thursday, but yesterday a member of the Vancouver Canucks ownership group decided it was time to move on from his role with the team.
Member of Vancouver Canucks ownership group leaves team
In a statement released by the Aquilini Investment Group on Friday, the family announced that Paolo Aquilini has decided to step away from his position as part of the Vancouver Canucks' ownership.
The Aquilini family also mentioned in their statement that they remain committed to bringing a Stanley Cup to the City of Vancouver and that the Vancouver Canucks are not for sale.
"In response to various media inquiries that we have received and due to a private family matter, Paolo has resigned from his positions with the team and will be leaving the ownership group.
The remaining owners take their role as stewards of this community asset with deep responsibility and pride, and remain fully committed to bringing the Cup to Vancouver. This team holds great meaning for the family and is not for sale. There will be no further comments." Luigi, Francesco and Roberto Aquilini said.
The Aquilini family have had full control of the Vancouver Canucks for the last 19 years after Francesco Aquilini purchased the remaining 50 percent stake in the club in November 2006.
During the Aquilini family's time as the team's ownership group, the Vancouver Canucks have made it to the Stanley Cup Playoffs only nine times and made one appearance in the Stanley Cup Final.
Off the ice, there hasn't been much urgency from the ownership group to find and build a practice facility for the Vancouver Canucks and as of today, they're one of only two teams that don't have one, the other being the Calgary Flames, who will be opening theirs in 2027.
One positive off the ice is the
renovations to Rogers Arena, which will include the installation of new seats in the 100 level before the start of the 2025-26 season.
