New details emerged on Monday from NHL insider Elliotte Friedman about which asset the Detroit Red Wings would not part with in a Quinn Hughes trade.

In the lead up to Quinn Hughes' trade to the Minnesota Wild last week, there were several teams interested in the former Norris Trophy winner including the Buffalo Sabres, Carolina Hurricanes, Detroit Red Wings, New Jersey Devils and New York Rangers.
Aside from the eventual winners of the sweepstakes, Minnesota, the New Jersey Devils and Detroit Red Wings reportedly had the most interest in Quinn Hughes, with the latter holding a bit of leverage due to the assets Steve Yzerman had to offer.
The one thing that Detroit has that Philly doesn't is - they have a center. I do think when I rank the teams, and I say who can do this and where would Hughes want to go, I would say Detroit's very high on my list." Friedman said.

He added, "Can you see [Red Wings exec Steve Yzerman] not being interested in Quinn Hughes? Can you see Quinn Hughes not being interested in Detroit when the time comes? I think they're very legit, and Detroit has centers, and centers that have been playing in the NHL I think Detroit is a team to watch.

Elliotte Friedman reveals Detroit Red Wings didn't want to part with certain asset for Quinn Hughes

During Monday's edition of the 32 Thoughts Podcast, Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman revealed that the Detroit Red Wings wanted to acquire Quinn Hughes, but were unwilling to part with a specific asset Jim Rutherford and the Vancouver Canucks wanted.
While Friedman says he's unclear of what that asset might have been, he has a hunch that it was 22-year-old Swedish defenseman Simon Edvinsson.
"Friedman on 32TP says Red Wings could not get the deal done with Vancouver for Quinn Hughes because the Canucks wanted something the Wings were not willing to include in the deal, Friedman doesn't know what that is but suspects it was Edvinsson." NHL Watcher said on X.
With the Detroit Red Wings unwilling to trade Simon Edvinsson, who is going to be a big piece of their blue line for many years to come, Jim Rutherford, who was handling the Quinn Hughes trade talks for the Canucks, shifted his attention to Minnesota.
The Wild's offer for Quinn Hughes included Zeev Buium, someone who will likely play his way into a top-pairing role very soon for Vancouver and remain there for the next decade, so it's safe to say that the Canucks hit a home run with the return on their former captain.
