A National Hockey League insider has shared some big news on Monday morning regarding German forward Lukas Reichel and his future with the Vancouver Canucks.

Following the team's trade of Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild on Friday evening, the Vancouver Canucks needed to open up some spots on their active roster to make room for Marco Rossi, Zeev Buium and Liam Ohgren.
After mulling over their options, the the Vancouver Canucks decided to place Lukas Reichel on the NHL's waiver wire following a fairly poor stint with the club after being acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks in late-October.
"General Manager Patrik Allvin announced today that F Lukas Reichel has been placed on waivers and designated non-roster waiver status." the Canucks said on X on Saturday.

NHL insider gives big update on Lukas Reichel's future with the Vancouver Canucks

As 11 a.m. rolled around on Sunday, news came out that Lukas Reichel cleared waivers and was now eligible to be assigned to the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks, which came as a bit of a surprise to some, with many expecting him to be claimed.
"Lukas Reichel has cleared waivers." Rick Dhaliwal said yesterday.

He added, "Canucks are trying to trade Reichel.

There is a chance of a deal happening."

However as of Monday afternoon, it's been over 24 hours since Reichel cleared the National Hockey League's waiver wire and the Vancouver Canucks have not commented or announced that he would be heading to AHL Abbotsford, but some new information has come to light from insider Rick Dhaliwal.
According to Dhaliwal, Lukas Reichel will be reporting to the Abbotsford Canucks until a trade materializes, adding that Vancouver's front office has given his agent permission to help facilitate a move.
"Lukas Reichel will be reporting to Abbotsford until a trade happens.

Reichel's agent Alain Roy has permission from the Canucks to help facilitate a trade." Dhaliwal said.
Reichel, a native of Nuremberg, Germany, appeared in 14 games with the Vancouver Canucks where he registered one assist, four penalty minutes and was a minus-five while averaging 13:06 of ice time per night.
As mentioned yesterday, with Lukas Reichel clearing waivers and 31 other teams having an opportunity to bring him in for free, it seems unlikely that another club would go on to give up an asset for him, but stranger things have happened and we'll have to wait and see if anything happens on this front over the coming days.
