With the New York Rangers being just one of two NHL teams without a captain, a new report has put forward former Vancouver Canucks centre J.T. Miller's name in the mix to be named the next leader of the team.
Former Vancouver Canucks centreman J.T. Miller expected to be front-runner for the next captain of the New York Rangers
After Jacob Trouba was traded, the Rangers are without a captain, and they are in desperate need for a new passionate voice to follow.
Legendary New York reporter Larry Brooks has come out with his top recommendation for the Rangers' next captain, and it is no other than J.T. Miller himself.
Per @NYP_Brooksie, J.T. Miller should be appointed #NYR captain at the start of training camp:
«The captain's sweater is not just another piece of laundry. It represents the organization's ethos. The Rangers acquired J.T. Miller to change the team culture. The 32-year-old is hard-edged and can be abrasive. That is the identity the Blueshirts should adopt.»
Although coined as somewhat of a controversial player, for the better part of 5 seasons, he was the voice of reason and heartbeat of the Vancouver Canucks, serving as assistant captain to both Quinn Hughes and Bo Horvat.
Last season, the Rangers were lacking a tough, hard-nosed mentality, which Miller helped provide upon his arrival to The Big Apple midseason.
Miller is the kind of player and person who's known for his aggressive mindset and competitive mentality.

With no leader or strong leadership group around him, Miller does seem to be the best fit to provide guidance on and off the ice.
But, you can best believe that it would be a surprising decision for the Vancouver Canucks fan base, as Miller was one of the more polarizing figures in his tenure.
