As the New York Rangers faced a similar disastrous season as the Vancouver Canucks, the team is looking for a new leader and veteran voice in the room, and all the signs point to former Canucks star, J.T. Miller being named the next captain.
After trading away Jacob Trouba, it currently stands right now that there are only three clubs in the NHL that do not have a player dawning the "C", denoting a captain.
They join the Boston Bruins, who traded Brad Marchand away to the Florida Panthers at the 2025 NHL Trade Deadline and the San Jose Sharks who had Logan Couture wearing the patch but announced his retirement at the end of this season.
Former Vancouver Canucks star forward J.T. Miller should be named next Captain of the New York Rangers
With the Rangers looking for passion and a voice to follow, nobody fits that description better than former Canucks star and assistant captain J.T. Miller.
Before the highly publicized rift with former teammate Elias Pettersson that took over headlines this past season, Miller was known to play with fire and passion, most notably being denoted as the heartbeat of the Vancouver Canucks.
Last season, the Rangers were lacking a tough, hard-nosed mentality, which Miller helped provide upon his arrival to The Big Apple midseason.
Miller is the kind of player and person who's known for his aggressive mindset and competitive mentality.

Now, with no leader and a strong leadership group around him, Miller is the perfect candidate to keep players accountable, but also provide guidance on and off the ice.
This would obviously be a polarizing decision for the Canucks fan base, but at this point, it does not matter.
