A National Hockey League insider has given a big update this week on the Boston Bruins' pursuit of Vancouver Canucks pending UFA forward Kiefer Sherwood.

The Vancouver Canucks are going to be one of the team's to watch leading up to the trade deadline on Friday, March 6th, as they're expected to part with a number of players on their roster with expiring contracts, most notably Kiefer Sherwood.
"According to several sources, the Vancouver Canucks have let it be known that - in an effort to get younger - they are willing to listen to offers on 'veteran players.'" Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman said in November.

Since Patrik Allvin made his pending unrestricted free agents available, a number of teams have expressed interest in Kiefer Sherwood, including the Boston Bruins, who are hoping to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs after missing out during the 2024-25 campaign.

Earlier this month, Jimmy Murphy of RG Media reported that the Boston Bruins have circled back on Kiefer Sherwood, which likely indicates that he could be one of their top trade targets over the next two months.
"Another NHL source has confirmed to R.org that the Bruins have circled back on Sherwood." Murphy said.

In an article for The Athletic on Friday, Chris Johnston and Pierre LeBrun took a look at some potential landing spots for some of the biggest names rumored to be on the move before the deadline and for Kiefer Sherwood, the Boston Bruins were mentioned once again.
While Boston might have a high level of interest in Kiefer Sherwood, it appears that the club isn't going to be targeting rental players in the lead up to the deadline, which could damper their chances of landing the 30-year-old winger, unless they're able to receive permission from the Vancouver Canucks to work out a contract extension as part of a trade.
"The biggest hurdle here might be the asking price. Vancouver is seeking a meaningful return for a player who looks poised to blow past 20 goals for the first time in his career, and Boston isn't expected to be chasing rentals at this deadline. However, these teams might be able to thread the needle if this trade comes with a contract extension for Sherwood, which is something he'd be open to." Johnston said.

With just 69 days to go until the National Hockey League's trade deadline for the 2025-26 season and lengthy roster freeze coming in February during the Winter Olympics, we could potentially see Kiefer Sherwood moved much sooner than March 6th.
