Vancouver Canucks' experiment with former first-round pick is over and officially place him on waivers

Since the start of the 2025-26 season, the Vancouver Canucks' roster has seen a lot of change, whether it be due to injuries, a free agent signing or trades, most notably last night's blockbuster that sent now-former captain Quinn Hughes to the Minnesota Wild.

Another trade Patrik Allvin made earlier this season saw the club acquire German forward Lukas Reichel from the Chicago Blackhawks with the hope that he could play a top-six role amid their ongoing injury crisis.

Unfortunately, it hasn't worked out well for Lukas Reichel in the Lower Mainland, which led the Vancouver Canucks to place him on the trade block back in late-November and it appears that his time with the Canucks is coming to a close.

In a post on social media on Saturday, National Hockey League insider David Pagnotta reported that barring a last minute trade, the Vancouver Canucks will be placing forward Lukas Reichel on the waiver wire to make room for the players acquired in the Quinn Hughes trade yesterday.

Jeff Paterson of Rink Wide: Vancouver reported that Lukas Reichel is no longer listed on the Canucks' roster, signalling that he's on waivers today, while new additions Zeev Buium and Liam Ohgren are on there, with Marco Rossi placed on injured reserve.

Reichel, a native of Nuremberg, Germany, has found himself in the press box quite often lately and during his time with the Vancouver Canucks has registered just one assist, four penalty minutes and is a minus-five in 14 games.

We'll have to wait and see what the next 24 hours has in store for Lukas Reichel and his future with the Vancouver Canucks organization, but there will likely be interest in the 23-year-old winger on the waiver wire and it's safe to say that Patrik Allvin & co. are hoping that he'll be claimed.
