The National Hockey League has made a big announcement on Sunday regarding former Vancouver Canucks goaltender Roberto Luongo for his contributions over to the game.

Back in January, the National Hockey League began revealing Quarter Century Teams for all of their 32 franchises, including the Vancouver Canucks.
Vancouver's Quarter Century Team featured Henrik and Daniel Sedin, as well as goaltender Roberto Luongo, who remains one of, if not the best goaltender in franchise history and on Sunday, he was apart of a big NHL announcement.

Roberto Luongo voted to NHL's Quarter Century Team

When the NHL initially revealed that they would be releasing Quarter Century Teams for each franchise, they also announced that fans would have the opportunity to vote for the best 25 players over the last 25 years.
On Sunday morning, the National Hockey League unveiled the final six names for their Quarter Century Team and as expected, Roberto Luongo was voted to the team.
The other five goaltenders joining Roberto Luongo on the NHL's Quarter Century Team are Henrik Lundqvist, Carey Price, Patrick Roy, Marc-Andre Fleury and Martin Brodeur.
"For me, he was the difference for us to get to the next level. If you talk about a winner, he is the guy. The way he competed in practice and in games, but mostly in practice. He never took a day off and that's something that I think a lot of players learned from. ... He just wanted to get better each and every day." Henrik Sedin said about Roberto Luongo.

Between January 1st, 2000 and his retirement at the end of the 2018-19 season, Luongo appeared in 1,035 games with the New York Islanders, Vancouver Canucks and Florida Panthers where he had a record of 486-387-91 and 32 ties along with a 2.52 goals against average, a .919 save percentage and 76 shutouts.
While he never won a Stanley Cup, the Montreal, Quebec native made a big impact in the playoffs during his career, posting a 34-35 record, five shutouts a 2.49 goals against average and .918 save percentage.
In 2022, three years after he retired, Roberto Luongo was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility and it was well deserved for what he was able to accomplish during his 19 seasons in the National Hockey League.
