A trade proposal has emerged this week that would send the Vancouver Canucks some help on forward amid a long-term injury to one of their players, Nils Hoglander.

The Vancouver Canucks received some tough news recently after Swedish forward Nils Hoglander suffered an injury during a preseason game against the Calgary Flames in late-September.
After further evaluation, it was determined that would miss eight-to-ten weeks after undergoing surgery and was subsequently placed on injured reserve earlier this week.
As the Vancouver Canucks get set to begin the 2025-26 season tonight at Rogers Arena, the team will look to fill the void left by Nils Hoglander until December and there's a chance that Patrik Allvin could eventually search for external help.

Trade proposal emerges sending forward help to Vancouver Canucks amid injury to Nils Hoglander

In a recent article for Heavy.com, Dave Benson shared a possible solution for the Vancouver Canucks to consider amid the injury to Nils Hoglander for the first two-and-a-half months of the season.
Benson suggested that the Vancouver Canucks should go out onto the trade market and complete a deal with the Toronto Maple Leafs that would see Patrik Allvin land forward Nick Robertson - the 53rd overall selection in 2019 - in exchange for a draft pick, likely in the second round.
"From Vancouver's side, the fit is almost too neat. Hoglander's absence leaves a hole in the exact tier of the lineup where Robertson could slot. He's cheap, under team control, and still carries enough upside to be more than just a stopgap." Benson said.

He added, "A second-round pick is a fair price. It's not insignificant, but it's also not franchise-breaking. And for a Canucks team that needs to support Elias Pettersson with actual depth scoring if they're going to make playoff noise, the move adds both short-term insurance and a longer-term upside play."

Robertson, a native of Pasadena, California, hasn't lived up to expectations in Toronto, but did show signs of his true potential during the regular season and playoffs in 2024-25.
The 24-year-old is currently on a one-year deal worth $1.825 million US and is set to become a restricted free agent next summer.
Adding Nick Robertson to the fold wouldn't be a bad idea, especially if the cost is a second round pick, as once Nils Hoglander returns, you can shift the former down the lineup, giving Adam Foote even more depth while potentially waiving someone like Arshdeep Bains.
